Small Worm Vase
I love playing with my handheld clay extruder. I mean, who didn’t loving playing with Play Doh as a kid right? Here I feel like the anthropomorphism of the ceramic is what gives it the personality.
The best thing I can do sometimes is just play with ideas and form. It doesn’t always work out, but it helps push me in a new direction that I wouldn’t have otherwise gone. I think of art as research. You study it, play with it, change variables and see what happens. I feel like art and science are closely related in that way.
One of the things I took away with making this study, is how much keeping the imperfections of the clay and its nuances are what give this little guy his personality. Sometimes I forget the powerful gestures that forms and materials can make.
